Farmer Brothers Raises Thousands of Dollars for Non-Profits

Farmer Brothers Company hosted its second-annual charity golf tournament during April, raising $50,000 to benefit two non-profit organizations – Grounds for Health, focused on saving women’s lives threatened by cervical cancer in coffee producing regions, and the Children’s Bureau of Los Angeles, providing resources to prevent and treat child abuse and neglect in Southern California. Each organization received a check for $25,000, earmarked for the continuation of their important work.

The event was held in beautiful Yorba Linda Country Club. The tournament was attended by 135 players, including Farmer Brothers employees and the company’s vendor partners. Over 80 corporate sponsors contributed to the event.

Patrick Criteser, co-CEO of Farmer Brothers, stated at the conclusion of the tournament, “This great tradition – supported by our industry suppliers around the country – shows how amazing things can happen when we work together for the benefit of others. This year’s event is especially meaningful to all our employees, as it benefits people in need both in local communities and in coffee communities around the world.” Tracy Ging receiving a check from Rocky LavertyTracy Ging receiving a check from Rocky Laverty

Grounds for Health board member Tracy Ging, deputy executive director of the Specialty Coffee Association of America, stated, “On behalf of Grounds for Health, I was delighted to accept this generous donation from Farmer Brothers Company. Because of our focus on developing cost effective, origin-based programs that are locally sustainable, this money will significantly benefit thousands of women and their families in coffee growing countries.”

Below is some background about the two organizations:

Grounds for Health (www.groundsforhealth.org) cultivates partnerships with coffee-farming communities to address the high rate of cervical cancer often found in low medical resource settings. GFH focuses on developing locally sustainable early detection and preventive treatment programs at origin, with the long-term goal of reducing unnecessary deaths from cervical cancer. GFH has programs in Tanzania, Mexico, and Nicaragua, and has helped over 16,000 women get cervical cancer care.

Children’s Bureau (www.all4kids.org) is a nearly 110-year-old nonprofit leader in the prevention and treatment of child abuse and neglect. More than 20,000 at-risk children and their families are served each year throughout Southern California with services that include school readiness, parenting classes, family resource centers, support groups, mental health counseling, foster care, adoption and more.
